Club History
Chartered 1958

The Weatherford Optimist Club was chartered in 1958 by several community minded  men as a service club. The Club motto started as "Friend of the Boy", but later changed to "Friend of Youth". As the motto reads, the club has been dedicated to support and encourage the youth in our community with activities and award programs. Each one of us should contribute time and service to our community that we love and receive so much. A service club is a good way to do this, and there is no better way or investment than being a part of the Optimist Club supporting our youth.

The first President of our Club was George Ausmus, owner of "George's Men Store" located on the north side of the square, now occupied by the Texas Bank.
