Weatherford Optimist Club Hosts Junior Golf Tournament at Canyon West Golf Club
Dylan Ward and Summer Hardin Take First in Junior Golf Tournament to Move Toward Corsicana Qualifying Tourney
Dylan Ward of Weatherford High School was the overall boys' winner of the Weatherford Optimist Club Junior World of Golf Tournament. He has advanced to the North Texas District Optimist Tournament in Corsicana on June 16, where he will attempt to qualify for the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships to be held in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida in July.
Ward shot a score of 71 at beautiful Canyon West's par 72 course to win the boys division on June 2. He is a junior at Weatherford High School where he plays on the golf team. Other contenders placing in the boys divisions include: 1st Place Age 16 Dylan Ward, 2nd Place James Hardin, and 3rd Place Wade Warren. In the Boys 17 Divisions, 1st Place Age 17, Jeremy Dickey and 2nd Place went to David Strandin; 1st Place Age 18, Robert Sieker of Weatherford.
In the 15-year-old boys' division, Jeff Joy of Brock took first place shooting a 74. Also placing in that division are: 2nd Place John Foster Cobb of Weatherford and 3rd
Place went to Matt Kockos of Springtown.
In the 14-year-old boys' division, Kenny Davis took 1st Place with a score of 84; 2nd Place went to Weatherford's Stephen Irvin and 3rd Place went to Kylar Horton of Springtown.
In the 17-year-old girls division, Weatherford's Summer Hardin took first place shooting an 86. Hardin was the overall girls' winner and she advanced to the Corsicana Qualifiers Tournament, which was held on June 16. Also placing in the 16 year old division was 2nd Selena Moore of Weatherford.
The Optimist International Junior Golf Championships is one of the largest tournaments in junior golf. Annually, more than 5,000 junior golfers compete in Optimist-sponsored qualifying tournaments. The championships are played on three courses at the prestigious PGA Nationals Golf Resort & Spa in Pal Beach Gardens, Florida.
