WEATHERFORD OPTIMIST CLUB HOSTS JUNIOR GOLF TOURNAMENT AT CANYON WEST GOLF CLUB
Taylor Davis Fires a 77 to Take First in Optimist Junior Golf Tournament and Move toward Fort Worth Qualifying Tourney
On Tuesday, June 3, the Weatherford Optimist Club hosted the local Junior World of Golf Tournament at Canyon West Golf Club. Area golfers from Weatherford, Millsap, Poolville, and Brock competed to advance to the North Texas Optimist Tournament, which will be held on June 19, at Pecan Valley in Fort Worth. Detailed below are the winners in the various categories.

The overall tournament champion was Taylor Davis, 16, of Weatherford High
School. Davis now advances to the North Texas Qualifying Tournament in Fort
Worth. The Optimist International Junior Golf Championship Tournament is one of
the largest tournaments in junior golf. Annually, more than 5, 000 junior
golfers compete in Optimist-sponsored qualifying tournaments and the
championships are played on three courses at the prestigious PGA Nationals Golf
Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
Optimist International is one of the world’s largest and most active service club organizations with more than 157.000 volunteer members in 4,200 Optimist Clubs in the United States, Canada, and other nations. Carrying the motto, “Friend of Youth,” Optimist Clubs conduct positive service programs, which reach six million young people each year.
The Weatherford Optimist Club meets at 6:30 a.m. every Thursday morning at the Weatherford College Doss Center. Besides the golf tournament, our club proudly sponsors Pee Wee Football, Flag Football, and Cheerleaders, Boy and Girl of the Month Awards, Respect for Law Week, Youth Appreciation Month, the Optimist Oratorical and Essay Contests, Peach Festival cobbler sales, Rodeo Flags, academic scholarships, and countless other events to assist Parker County youth and their schools.
